Having a September birthday is just perfect for a pumpkin-themed party.
But don’t think you have to stick with traditional colors, that’s what’s fun about planning your own party, you can do what you want! I’m drawn to pinks and burgundies, so those were the primary colors with white and orange mixed in.
Pumpkin Themed Birthday Invitation
First, begin with the invitation design. You can purchase and download clipart from Etsy and create the invitation using Canva. I love that there are multiple download options. The “png” option is great for virtual invites, which helps cut down on cost!

Food Options
Once you’ve nailed down the location and time, begin working on the food and drink options. Having a party later in the afternoon is great for those on a budget because you don’t have to serve lunch. Drinks and desserts are completely acceptable and easy to prepare. If you’re having an outdoor party consider the following:
- coffee & punch
- popcorn
- cookies & cupcakes
Keep the theme coherent by adding stickers to the cups and popcorn box. Visit your local office supply store and grab some sticker paper in your desired shape. Customize using free templates from the brand’s website and print from your home computer. Simple and more cost-effective!
Next, we bought the dessert plates, napkins, coffee cups, cupcake liners, and popcorn boxes from amazon.
Pumpkin Theme Decorations
If you’re trying to keep it “budget friendly”, decide what are must-haves and focus on that first. I knew I wanted a giant balloon (in a matching color) for the highchair and a personalized milestone poster. I started with those two things and then added other elements from there (again from Etsy.com).
Next, I wanted simple centerpieces for the picnic tables. I purchased dried flowers and pink and white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby, and I found the vases at Dollar Tree.

A fun way to display lots of photos is having a photo wall hanging. All you need is a rod, twine, and some clothespins. It also works as a cute photo opt!

Add personal touches with handwritten elements. We used handwritten chalk signs for party favors, gifts, food information, and the drink stand.

Smash Cake
Smash cakes are incredibly popular for many reasons; they’re the perfect introduction to cake, adorable, and affordable! You can easily make one yourself. Purchase a large cupcake form and using your favorite cake mix, create a super simple and cute smash cake for your little one.

That’s it! Your inspiration to the perfect pumpkin-n-pink birthday party.
